Sew A Swimsuit with Charlotte Newland
We’re so excited that we’re able to announce one of our most requested classes ever – sewing swimwear!
Join us and our expert teacher Charlotte Newland, winner of the Great British Sewing Bee 2016, professional teacher and fitting maestro! On this class we’ll be sewing up the fabulously flattering Cottesloe Swimsuit by Megan Neilson. It’s such a versatile pattern, with one-piece swimsuit option with a gorgeous tie-back detail or bikini with standard or high-waisted briefs and it comes in sizes 0 – 30.
On this class you’ll learn;
- How to choose the right size for you
- Making any pattern alterations to get the right fit for you
- How to cut and sew super stretchy fabrics (perfect for swimwear but also helpful for activewear & dancewear)
- Sewing with swimwear elastic
- Finishing your swimwear so it survives the sea & swimming pool!
Our sewing classes are relaxed and friendly, taking place at our beautiful studio at Holme Grange Craft Village in Wokingham, Berkshire. Students get to use our brand new digital Janome sewing machines and class sizes are capped at 8 to ensure everyone gets the time and attention they need.
The class includes expert instruction, use of the Janome machines, tools, threads etc, a copy of the Cottesloe pattern so you can make it again at home plus tea, coffee and cake!
If you’re making the Curve version of the pattern, please let us know when booking as you’ll receive a printed copy of the PDF pattern and instructions emailed after the class which you can keep and print if you wish.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
You’ll need to bring your swimsuit fabric, swimsuit lining and optional powermesh (please see attached sizing & fabric requirement photos), plus coordinating swimsuit elastic. Please Contact Us if you’re unsure about any of the fabric requirements. (Note we won’t be adding the optional cups to the swimsuit in this class).
You don’t need to bring a sewing machine or sewing kit (scissors, pens, pencils, unpickers etc) as our sewing studio is fully equipped.
Improver (4) and upwards. Please note, this is not a beginner sewing class – you do need to know how to use a sewing machine comfortably, and have made a few garments already. If you’re unsure please check our class levels here. Our Introduction to Sewing class is the best for complete beginners to sewing.
