Learn to Sew Your Own Jeans Weekender
People can often be put off from sewing jeans as the techniques involved can feel daunting. Don’t be scared any longer, our Sew Your Own Jeans intensive weekend class with Great British Sewing Bee winner Charlotte Newland will have you feeling like a Sewing Superhero!
Spread over 3 days, this class will teach you everything you need to know about making your first pair of jeans, from fitting to top-stitching, constructing a fly front, adding all the hardware to make your jeans look seriously professional and of course the all important fitting advice and adjustments. Our in-depth class is taught by non-other than Charlotte Newland, winner of the Great British Sewing Bee 2016, expert teacher and lover of all things sewing and craft. She’s taught countless people to fit and sew their own jeans and will help you perfect your pair.
The class includes a choice of 2 popular jeans patterns; Closet Case Ginger Jeans (a slim or skinny fit leg), or the Cashmerette Ames Jeans (Curvy Fit). We’ll also include a full hardware kit in your class (interfacing, jeans buttons, rivets & zips), and will have plenty of thread on hand so you don’t have to worry about sourcing anything except your fabric – and we also have lots of lovely denims in stock too!
Our sewing classes are relaxed and friendly, taking place at our beautiful studio at Holme Grange Craft Village in Wokingham, Berkshire. This class is capped at just 5 to ensure everyone gets the time and attention they need.
The class includes expert instruction in a small group, use of the Janome machines, tools, threads etc, a copy of your chosen jeans pattern, jeans hardware kit plus tea, coffee and cake! Every attendee will also receive an exclusive Sewisfaction Student Gift Pack.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
- Matching thread – we provide a wide choice of coloured threads to use during the class but if there is a specific colour match or top-stitching colour you would like, we recommend bringing your own.
- If you want anything other than blue or black zips or your own specific hardware, please bring these with you. We’ll provide blue or black zips and silver or bronze hardware in your kit.
- For Ginger & Ames Jeans you will need 2 – 3m of medium to heavy-weight Stretch Denim, with at least 2% Lycra/Elastane/Spandex. Note you will also need the same amount of fabric for your toile version. Please check the pattern sizing for exact fabric amounts, or contact us if you’re unsure. We ask you to bring slightly more than the pattern dictates to allow for any fitting changes and recutting.
- For all versions you’ll also need 0.5m light-medium weight cotton such as Poplin or Lawn for the facings.
We want to make this class as accessible as possible so have a range of payment options. You can pay in full at the time of booking and your space is guaranteed. Alternatively a £150 deposit is required to secure your space, the remaining balance can either be paid in one final payment or in instalments. The balance will need to be paid by 1st April 2020. Please note the deposit is non-refundable.
