Introduction to Patchwork & Quilting
The perfect class for those of you who want to learn machine patchwork and quilting. You’ll make a beautiful 16 square quilt approx 18-20″ finished size.
Our sewing classes are relaxed and friendly, taking place at our beautiful studio at Holme Grange Craft Village in Wokingham, Berkshire. You’ll get to use our brand new digital Janome sewing machines and class sizes are capped at eight to ensure everyone gets the time and attention they need.
YOU WILL LEARN
- How to choose and place your fabrics
- Measuring and cutting using a rotary cutter and mat
- Machine piecing and pressing
- Straight line quilting and using a walking foot
- Adding a border/sashing your quilt
- Layering your quilt using wadding and backing fabric
- Binding and finishing your quilt
Depending on your sewing experience level, you may not completely finish your full quilt during the class, but you will be given full instructions, including a lesson handout to allow you to finish at home if necessary. Most people just need to complete the hand sewing of the binding at home.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
You will need a selection of 6 fat quarters or approx 1.5m of other mixed complementary fabrics that you can cut into squares and use for your quilt. You’ll also need fabric for your quilt backing. If you are unsure, please Contact Us before the class and we’ll be happy to help.
You may have made some simple projects before and know how to use a sewing machine. This class is not suitable for complete beginners. If you are unsure, please Contact Us before booking.
The class includes expert instruction, use of the Janome machines, wadding, tools, threads etc, instructions so you can make again at home plus tea, coffee and biscuits!
