We’re delighted to add this much requested class with Claire-Louise Hardie, perfect for those of you that have created a block on one of our previous classes or elsewhere and want to know how to get the most out of it. If you don’t have your own custom block pattern but still want to understand pattern drafting, you can take this class and we’ll provide you with a standard block sample to use.
“Arrived at the class not knowing anything about toile construction…in my head it was a thing that very experienced people did…Came away confident with my new found skill. Let the fun begin!”
Over the two-day course Claire-Louise, esteemed costumier, pattern maker, author and former Great British Sewing Bee producer will help you understand creative pattern making.
Day 1- Working either with your own custom block or a standard block sample you’ll learn how to transform a simple block into a selection of pattern styles. At the end of the day you’ll be confident in dart rotation and creating shape with 2D patterns
Day 2 – Following on from Day 1, you’ll learn how to create more complex pattern styles that have a drapey element like cowls or sarong skirts as well as pleating and asymmetrical details. You can bring along a fit buddy mannequin if you have one, or a standard size mannequin can be provided.
This course is about the creative element to making patterns so you won’t be making either a custom mannequin or a block, although instructions for how to do so can be provided, (or you could take our Fitting & Draping Class to make your block and mannequin).
You’ll finish the class with a good understanding of how to use a block as a basis for drafting patterns and creating different shapes.
Our sewing classes are relaxed and friendly, taking place at our beautiful studio at Holme Grange Craft Village in Wokingham, Berkshire. Students get to use our brand new digital Janome sewing machines and class sizes are capped to ensure everyone gets the time and attention they need.
The class includes expert instruction, use of the Janome machines, tools, threads etc, pattern paper, calico plus tea, coffee and cake!
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
- Your custom block if you have one and your mannequin fit buddy if you have one. You can still take part in this class without these but please let us know in the notes section when checking out if you need a standard block or mannequin provided.
Intermediate (4) – You must be confident at sewing and reading sewing patterns already. You’ll be able to sew darts without instruction and be happy to sew at an intermediate level.
Our classes are non-refundable so please make sure you’ve checked your diary carefully and read our Class FAQs before booking. These also cover lots of other questions so please do read them!
