Meet the Maker: Juliet Uzor
January 26th 2020

Our meet the maker series is back for 2020 and we’ve decided to kick it off in a very big way – with none over then Queen of Sewing Bee, Juliet Uzor. We immediately feel for Juliet when she appeared on our screen and her sparkling personality and serious sewspiration have made her a solid part of the Sewing Community ever since.
Following last years sell-out ‘Sew Statement Sleeves‘ workshop, we’ve added a new class which means Juliet is back again at Sewisfaction HQ in Feb so we thought it was the perfect excuse to catch up with her about all things sewing:
Hey Juliet, tell us a bit about yourself
I’m Juliet, a former primary school teacher, a mum and overall sewing nerd with huge dreams of getting as many people people to experience the joy of creating clothes. I’m also known for winning the Great British Sewing Bee in April 2019.
How did you get into sewing?
My curiosity got me into sewing. I met a lady whose generosity inspired me to learnt to sew. During one of my travels to West Africa, She made me a dress under 24 hours and that motivated me to take the plunge and purchase a basic machine from Hobbycraft. A few YouTube videos here and there… and now we’re here.

Where do you do your sewing?
I have a dedicated room in my home, my dining room. I converted it into my sewing space because we eat our meals in the kitchen.
What’s your proudest ever make?
It’s hard to pick a proudest make because I’ve seen a lot of garment. But the one thing that stands out is the swimming costume I made on the sewing bee. I don’t know if I’ll be sewing one any time soon.
What next on your sewing list?
I have a lush tweed fabric that I’ve been stroking for the past 4 years. I think it’s time to cut into it to sew a Chanel jacket before the new season comes.
Isn’t Juliet amazing!? To follow her sewing journey, you can follow her on Instagram @julietuzor_ or why not join her here at Sewisfaction on 9th February to learn how to sew statement sleeves for every garment?
